Elim Chew

Young Woman Achiever 2002
Entrepreneur and Founder of 77th Street

In 1988, when she was just 21, Ms Chew set up streetwear chain 77th Street. But she soon turned her retail savvy into something more meaningful. In 2004, she launched My Voice, a book featuring more than 70 real-life experiences written by youths from all walks of life. The 2nd edition of My Voice – Breaking Free was launched subsequently in 2006. All proceeds from the sale of My Voice were channelled to fund life skills, entrepreneurial and creative skills workshops for youths. She also chaired and co-chaired several public service, youth and community groups including the Programming Committee for *scape.
The former chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Chapter of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises has also donated money to build churches in Indonesia, China and India. She has “adopted” three abused kids from a church in the US and 19 orphans through World Vision.
Together with Mr Adrian Ng, founder of app development firm Codigo, her social impact venture – FastFast app – was launched in August 2015. As of this October, the venture has hired about 500 registered freelance couriers.
